Vending machine placement agreement
2 October 2026Outdoor vending machine
2 October 2026The power consumption of a vending machine depends mainly on cooling, lighting, display and location, and is an important item in the running cost calculation.
Function and area of use
Non-refrigerated snack vending machines need little energy, essentially for the control system and lighting. Refrigerated drinks and snack vending machines consume considerably more because the compressor has to maintain the temperature. Freezer vending machines and machines with an oven, microwave or heating module are higher still.
The actual values are in the manufacturer’s data sheet. What matters is the power consumption in normal operation, not the short-term peak output. Consumption rises in summer, at sunny outdoor locations and with frequent door opening.
Advantages
- More accurate calculation of running costs
- Basis for choosing an efficient unit
- Savings through LED lighting, good insulation and night-time setback
Technical details
Calculate as follows: average power consumption in kilowatts times operating hours times electricity price. Many modern units offer energy-saving modes that dim the lighting and display at night.
Frequently asked questions
Does a vending machine need its own circuit?
Refrigerated snack and drinks vending machines usually run on a normal socket. Freezer vending machines and machines with an oven often need a dedicated, adequately fused circuit. Have this checked by a qualified electrician in advance.
