18 January 2026A PPE vending machine (personal protective equipment) is a specialised Goods dispensing system for the controlled issue of protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses, masks or hearing protection to employees in industry and trade.
Function and area of use
PPE vending machines are placed directly in production halls or workshops to shorten the route to the central store. Items are usually issued via employee cards (RFID/NFC), so that every withdrawal is recorded per person. The system usually uses spiral or drum mechanisms to dispense different pack sizes reliably.
The main area of use is Industry 4.0. Connection to the internal IT allows consumption to be monitored in real time. As soon as a defined minimum stock is reached, the vending machine automatically triggers a reorder. This prevents production stoppages due to missing equipment and massively reduces shrinkage from uncontrolled withdrawals.
PPE vending machines also ensure that occupational safety guidelines are observed, because the equipment is available 24/7. In critical areas, access can even be restricted to certified employees.
Advantages
- 24/7 availability of protective equipment right where it is used
- Automated ordering prevents out-of-stock situations
- Complete documentation of PPE issue for the employers’ liability insurance association
- Fewer walking distances and waiting times for employees
- Interfaces to ERP systems (SAP, Navision etc.) possible
- Maximum transparency about consumption per cost centre

Equipped with RFID readers for works ID cards and LAN/Wi-Fi modules for cloud connection. The compartment configuration is modular and can be adapted from small parts (ear plugs) to large items (safety shoes).
