QR code payment at the vending machine

With QR code payment, the customer scans a code on the vending machine with their smartphone and pays via an app or payment portal.

Function and area of use

The vending machine shows a QR code on the display or on a sticker. The customer scans it, selects the product and pays in the payment provider’s app. After confirmation, the vending machine dispenses the goods. The method is inexpensive to retrofit because it does not need card terminal hardware.

It requires the customer to have a smartphone with a data connection and to use the relevant app. As the only payment method it is therefore rarely sufficient, but it is practical as a complement to card or coins.
