Vending machines for companies: staff catering without a canteen
29 September 2026A farm shop has fixed opening hours, but customers often come after work or on Sundays. A Vending machine closes this gap: eggs, dairy products, sausage, fruit and vegetables are available around the clock, without anyone having to staff the shop. Here you can read which vending machines are suitable for direct marketing and what to consider regarding location, hygiene and operation.
Which vending machines are suitable for farm shops
| Type of vending machine | Suitable for | Net price |
|---|---|---|
| Egg vending machine TCN-CEL-11L(32SP) with lift | Eggs, plus salad, vegetables, drinks and snacks | €8,500 |
| Flower and fresh produce vending machine with refrigerated compartments | Flowers, cakes, dairy products, fruit and vegetables | €10,000 |
| Locker vending machines | packaged goods of different sizes, including collection of pre-ordered boxes | from €5,000 |
| Frozen food vending machines | Meat, sausage, ice cream and ready meals from your own production | from €6,500 |
Locker vending machines are flexible because each compartment can hold different goods of a different size. Vending machines with a lift dispense delicate products such as eggs or jars gently. For chilled goods, you need a unit with adjustable cooling; for meat and ice cream, a freezer unit.
Location: on the farm or by the road
- Weather protection: Most vending machines are built for sheltered locations. A canopy, carport or small vending kiosk protects against rain, sun and frost.
- Electricity: Refrigerated and freezer units need a permanent, fused connection.
- Availability: A parking space right next to the vending machine significantly increases the number of impulse purchases.
- Lighting and security: A well-lit, visible location reduces the risk of vandalism.
- Permit: If the vending machine stands on public land, you need a special use permit from the municipality.
Hygiene and labelling
Anyone selling food via a vending machine must register with the responsible food inspection authority and be able to prove the cold chain. Vending machines with temperature monitoring and remote access make documentation easier, because deviations are noticed immediately.
Specific requirements apply to individual products. For eggs, there are rules on labelling, best-before dates and storage temperature; for raw milk, the German Food Hygiene Regulation for Foods of Animal Origin requires, among other things, a clear notice to boil it. Clarify your range with the veterinary and food inspection authority before you start. You will find a general overview of registrations and obligations in the guide Setting up a vending machine.
Paying without small change
Many customers at farm vending machines now pay by card or smartphone. A vending machine that also accepts coins reaches both groups. You can read how card terminals work and what they cost in the guide Card payment on vending machines.
Restocking and day-to-day operation
- Check stock levels and temperature remotely instead of driving there every day
- Stock fresh goods on a “first in, first out” basis
- Display prices and allergens clearly
- Clean the vending machine and compartments regularly and document the cleaning
- Adapt the range to the season, for example asparagus, strawberries or pumpkins
Does a farm vending machine pay off?
The vending machine extends selling hours without additional staff. Whether the purchase pays off depends on location, range and prices. Our guide shows how to calculate this realistically: Is a vending machine worth it? You buy all units directly in the shop; leasing is available on request through our partner leasing companies, with a 50% down payment for financing.
